Dollar Tree Chalkboard
Pt 1

Love chalkboards. Especially the standing kind above.
But they are pretty expensive and I only had room for tiny ones.
Thus I took myself to the Dollar Tree Store to see if I
could make a very low budget tiny topper for my nightstand.
The results:
Dollar Tree Materials:
Chalk (not pictured, small pack of 4)
Sponge Brush
Brush
Dry Erase Board
Other Materials:
Chalkboard Paint
(I used Martha Stewart's brand)
Step 1:
Use the sponge brush or regular brush to coat on the first coat. It will look very light but don't worry about that right now.
Step 2:
Let dry for an hour or as directed on your chalkboard paint bottle.
Step 3:
Apply second coat with finger to create a smoother effect (optional gloves if you don't want black paint all over your finger.) TIP Put small drops around the board and then smooth over the drops. It is easier than putting one big blob.
Step 4: Let dry for 24 hours. Test if dry with finger (not fingernail- it will leave a white indent if it is not dry).
Step 5: Curate with chalk. Lightly roll chalk on its side across your new chalkboard. Do not press. Then let sit for an extra day.
Enjoy your new little chalkboard!
Happy Tuesday!
